An injunction or retraining order is an order of the court either stoping a person or company from doing something or compels them to do something. An injunction may be obtained when the improper actions of another person or company unfairly or illegally interfere with your lawful rights.
For example, when a team of several stock brokers decided to leave their security firm and begin soliciting the client list of their prior employer, Mr. Baxter successfully argued to the court to enjoin them from using the client list procured by their prior employer.
Another example, is where a court may enter a restraining order to stop another person from conduct which threatens you rights when there exists a substantial likelihood of irreparable harm.
